AbbVie has an opening for a Sr. Scientist II position within the ADC Platform Group at our Bioresearch Center in Worcester, MA. The ADC platform group within SMTPT (Small Molecule Therapeutics & Platform Technologies) collaborates with drug discovery project teams across all AbbVie therapeutic areas including Oncology and Immunology. The ideal candidate will effectively collaborate with chemists, biologists and pharmacologists to characterize large and small molecules for ADC discovery and development.

Key Responsibilities:

• Conceive and execute novel scientific research or development that achieves projects and disease area goals.
• Generate new scientific proposals and lead those efforts.
• Investigate, identify, develop and optimize new methods/techniques.
• Act as a lead in area of expertise, critically evaluate relevant scientific, regulatory advances and integrate this knowledge into research or development programs.
• Conceive and implement novel experimental approaches to answer scientific questions and enable the development of antibody drug conjugates (ADCs) for the treatment of cancer or inflammatory diseases.
• Responsible for conceiving, performing studies, as well as analyzing, interpreting results and effectively communicating findings in a group setting.
• Maintain solid understanding and hands-on-experience assessing key cancer and inflammatory cell signaling pathways such as investigating, identifying, developing, & optimizing new methods and techniques that inform on pathway/drug mechanisms of action such as taqman, western blot, flow cytometry, biochemical assays, reporter assays, or gene over-expression/knockdown.
• Identify, develop and optimize new methods & techniques that inform on ADC/payload mechanism of actions using flow cytometry, reporter assays or gene overexpression/knockdown.
• Perform flow cytometry studies to interrogate antibody binding to cells of interest and analysis using FlowJo.
• Perform 2D and 3D model screening to support SAR screening of small molecules, siRNA and antibody drug conjugates.
• Responsible for leading presentations at International Scientific meetings.
• Manage and oversee Jr scientists within the team.

Basic Qualifications:

• BS, MS, or PhD in Biology and or Biochemistry or closely related field with typically 12+ (BS), 10+ (MS) or 4+ (PhD) years of postdoc or industry related experience.
• Experienced in leading and executing study designs for screening antibodies, small molecules and siRNAs (reporter assays, proliferation and cytokine release) 
• Experience executing antibody internalization and siRNA loss of function studies is a plus
• Experience with transfections and generating transient and stable cell lines
• Experience with gain and loss of function studies
• Experience with designing siRNAs therapeutics for delivery to mammalian cells is a plus
• Experience culturing adherent, suspension and primary cells
• Proficiency in performing flow cytometry and western blot experiments
• Experience with performing qPCR and automated western blot analysis
• Experience working with high throughput laboratory workflows and instruments such MACsQuant, FACS Canto, Microbeta, Wes, Amnis Imagestream, Via7 (taqman) and Spectramax plate readers.
• Experience documenting experimental methods and results into BIOELN
• Ability to summarize and present results to project teams
