Job Description
The African Research Center for Air Quality and Climate is primarily focused on environmental monitoring and prediction of atmospheric pollutants using experimental and modeling techniques and addressing their impacts on health, climate, and ecosystem in the African continent. The center is currently seeking an outstanding Postdoctoral Researcher to work with an interdisciplinary and culturally diverse team to develop activities in analytical atmospheric chemistry.
Major Duties/Responsibilities
- Design sampling methodologies for atmospheric gases and particles and conduct field sampling.
- Take the lead for designing and running a laboratory for chemical analysis of gases and particles, and conducting the chemical analysis.
- Take the responsibility for the selection of the required analytical equipment and their maintenance.
- Communicate with other engineers/scientists internally and externally.
- Collaborate with national and international industrial and academic partners.
- Evaluate the performance of the developed methodologies and techniques through laboratory and field studies.
- Write scientific proposals, publish in peer-reviewed journals, present research findings at international conferences, and Supervise PhDs.
- Collaborate with various institutes and departments in UM6P.
Required Qualification
- The candidate should have a PhD in Chemistry (atmospheric chemistry or analytical chemistry will be preferred).
- Experience with mass spectrometry, ultra-high performance liquid chromatography, gas chromatography and ion chromatography and/or instrument development, quantitation, data handling/statistics, and scientific writing skills are strongly desired.
- Experience in conducting field measurements and sampling is preferred.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Ability to teach at the undergraduate level and mentor Ph.D. students.
- Proven track record of publishing high-quality research papers and writing competitive scientific proposals.
- Excellent skills in presenting at Conferences and communicating in English to an international scientific audience.
- Ability to creatively participate in collaborative teams across different laboratories and to work independently.
