Job/Project Description
The CoreLab Bioinformatician will play a critical role in driving expert analysis and management of large-scale genomic datasets. This role requires a high degree of technical proficiency, creativity, and a collaborative mindset. Selected candidates will be based at UM6P at the campus of Benguerrir.
Key Duties
- Data Analysis & Management: Conduct comprehensive bioinformatic analysis including sequence assembly, annotation, and comparative genomics.
- Data Visualization: Create innovative data visualizations to represent genomic data effectively.
- Pipeline Development: Develop, refine, and maintain bioinformatic workflows and pipelines for high-throughput genomic data processing.
- Research Collaboration: Collaborate with research teams to design experiments and analyze data to support scientific discoveries.
- Training and Support: Provide training and support to research staff and students on bioinformatics tools and best practices.
- Database Management: Develop and manage databases to ensure integrity, security, and accessibility of data.
- Innovative Solutions: Stay abreast of, and implement, latest bioinformatics tools and technologies to enhance research outcomes.
- Cross-disciplinary Collaboration: Work closely with IT, Corelab personnel, and researchers to ensure seamless data flow and integration across platforms.
Required Competencies
- Proficiency in bioinformatics software, tools, and databases. Strong coding skills in Python, R, and/or Perl.
- Ability to analyze and visualise complex biological data and provide clear, actionable insights.
- Primary, secondary and tertiary analysis of complete genomes, exomes and gene panels.
- Genomic and metagenomic analysis of pathogens and/or phytopathogens (viruses, bacteria, fungi).
- Bioinformatic analysis of RNA-Seq data is desirable.
- Proficiency in the Linux environment and knowledge of various relevant bioinformatic tools, databases and algorithms.
- Excellent working knowledge of HPC computing clusters.
- Ability to transform analysis results into report forms.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present complex data to various audiences.
- Strong problem-solving skills and adaptability to new challenges and research questions.
- Experience in managing multiple projects simultaneously, with strong organizational and time-management skills.
- Proven track record of effective collaboration in a multi-disciplinary team environment.
Required Qualifications
- Ph.D in bioinformatics, Computational Biology, or a related field.
- Minimum of 3 years of post-graduate experience in a bioinformatics role, within a research team, service-providing entity, or a clinical setting.
