TMG Children has an amazing opportunity for a Creative Designer & Illustrator to join our Children's publishing portfolio. Our designers are the keepers of TMG Children Magazines aesthetic, producing innovative, well-designed monthly editions.
Reporting to the of Children's Publishing, this full-time, exempt role will manage multiple s simultaneously, developing creative, appropriate, and marketable solutions and will guide complete projects, from covers to interiors, through the entire process, from concept through production.
Primary Job Responsibilities:
The position involves a range of responsibilities, of which the primary duties as a designer include but are not limited to the following:
Design a range of children's magazines across diverse reading levels and for other categories if/as needed
Design, illustrate content encouraging readers to experience their reads.
Team up with editorial and marketing team members in-house to realize a lective vision
Project Manage and prepare sales and marketing laterals and literature.
Help develop and implement a vision and strategy with the goal of publishing distinctive editions month to month.
Originate and develop new ideas and new ats for publication
Qualifications
Art/design school graduate or university design/art major
At least 3-5 years of work experience in graphic design from concept to electronic pre-press files according to print specifications
Experience in a Macintosh environment and a command of Adobe InDesign, as well as a working knowledge of Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Illustrator, Microsoft Word and Microsoft Excel
Portfolio pieces that demonstrate an appropriate sensibility for and interest in children's design/illustration and in publication and/or print design are essential
Focus on print-based design is required
A knowledge of offset printing techniques, in particular our balance and how to achieve it.
Ability to prioritize and handle multiple assignments simultaneously
Demonstrated attention to detail
Candidates should possess strong organizational, communication, problem-solving, and interpersonal skills. This requires teamwork, laboration, an ability to mediate and negotiate with leagues and suppliers. Sound critical judgment skills and emphasis on publication design is preferred as is experience with product design and conceptualizing new ats.
