Job Description

Biotherapeutics and Genetic Medicine at AbbVie is seeking a highly motivated research scientist to join a dynamic team supporting biologics drug discovery and biologics engineering. In this role you will act as a group leader by both supporting a team of scientists as well as driving discovery projects. We are seeking a talented people manager, and scientist with strong knowledge of antibody structure and function. For this role, the ideal candidate should have strong experience with advanced high-throughput antibody production and characterization technologies. Other desirable skills include experience with high-throughput platforms for protein expression, purification, and analytics. The applicant should be able to analyze, document, and report data. They should possess excellent communication skills and be comfortable presenting in group settings.

Educational Background:


  • BS, MS, PhD in biology or related field with typically 10+ years (BS), 8+ years (MS), 0+ years (PhD) of pharmaceutical and/or relevant experience.

Required:


  • Experience with leading a team (3+) scientists with demonstrated ability to develop talent.
  • Proficient with writing automation scripts and developing liquid handling workflows (Hamilton, Lynx).
  • Experience with designing screening assays to facilitate decision making for molecule advancement.
  • Experience with optimization of workflows and assays using statistical analysis (DOE, JMP).
  • Familiarity with sequence analysis and annotation tools (Geneious, Genedata).
  • Strong knowledge of biologics, antibody fragments and mimetics. Understanding of protein structure and function.
  • Experience in executing and developing mammalian cell culture and transfection workflows.
  • Strong Experience with protein purification and in vitro analytical techniques for protein characterization (e.g., SEC, MS, DSF).
  • Keen ability to engage internal and external scientific leaders in collaborative research.
  • Excellent organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.

Preferred:


  • Experience withbacterial cell culture and protein purification.
  • Direct experience with binding assays (e.g., ELISA, flow cytometry)
  • Flow cytometry experience
