Key Accountabilities

Delivering on the strategy and achieving agreed targets




  • Cascades the (business & ISC) (assets and demand plan) strategy to motivate the site organization effectively, ensures appropriate alignment of focus and ensures issues are fed back up.

  • Contributes to the formulation of business objectives from an operations perspective, ensures site capabilities, constraints and HSE considerations are incorporated into Business planning.

  • Stock management and distribution of finished goods through 3PL, while adhering to standard process, cost budget and in alignment with local plans. 

  • Plans, leads, organizes, and controls the delivery (ready to serve) of the sites.

  • Contribution to business objectives and overall performance targets (in terms of safety, Reliability, productivity. customer service, OTIF, inventory levels, cost, quality, Material/eco-efficiency, capital, engagement and community stewardship).

  • Manages and plans relevant (site/departmental) budget and proactively manages the costs (such as expense, labour, overhead), develops and manages implementation of Plant capital budget.

  • Reports on KPI’s and progress on a continuous base and provides insights regarding developments based on analysis, tracks overall plant achievements vs targets and Implements remedial actions when needed.




Managing operations




  • Implements and operates ALPS (CI, strategic initiatives, standard processes, tools, training and organizational roles and responsibilities) for the site consistent with the agreed ISC functional excellence agenda.

  • Directs the overall activities of the manufacturing facilities of the plant to ensure customer orders are received, scheduled, produced and shipped at the lowest possible cost to meet the customers’ requirements while maintaining corporate established quality standards.

  • Develops annual manufacturing & Logistics expense budget in accordance with forecasted sales volumes and planned inventory levels.

  • Customer service: produces and delivers on time in full, act as a liaison with Distribution, Sales and Customer Service to ensure high levels of customer satisfaction in helping to address customer inquiries, problems and concerns.

  • Production efficiency: manages production of one or more production units at the lowest possible cost.

  • Asset integrity: ensures safe design, change, operation and maintenance of assets in compliance with the AkzoNobel process safety management framework and the AkzoNobel risk tolerance criteria.

  • Material efficiency: produces and effectively uses materials, services

  • People effectiveness: ensures appropriate staffing of positions in terms of numbers and Capabilities

  • Leading operations and business reviews with the logistics service providers (warehouse and transport) including service, quality, cost adherence and the ability to deliver continuous improvement.

  • Ensures effective stock management for a seamless end to end services to our customers whilst managing and controlling slobs (slow and obsolete).

  • Ensuring (people and process) safety and adhering to all regulations



Key Accountabilities (continued)

  • Ensures that all the applicable company Directives, Rules and Procedures as well as local site procedures with regard to personal conduct, HSE and Product Safety & Regulatory Affairs (PSRA), including the Life Saving Rules, are adhered to, acts in compliance to all regulations, acts according to company policy and practices when issues arise and reinforces the minimum personal safety requirements

  • Implements and operates the Safety Common Platform and identifies and responds effectively to hazards in HSE and security.

  • Involves all site employees in the design and delivery of the site Safety Improvement Plan (SIP) in line with the Safety Common Platform and integrates the SIP in the site’s overall plans so that resources are efficiently managed.

  • Continuously improving, Establishes, achieves, enforces and continuously improves the performance levels for the site, using CI techniques, and provides feedback to BA/BU/CI/ALPS deployment teams on best practices and improvements in processes and tools.

  • Establishes a culture of functional and operational excellence, continuous improvement, accountability, professionalism and commitment to company values and behaviours.

  • Analyses plant operations to ensure that the facility maintains a leadership position in the industry and that it takes advantage of new processes and technologies that become available

  • Networks with other site managers / stakeholders inside and outside of AkzoNobel to develop and share knowledge, experience, leverage best practice and exchange of/and building talents.

  • Leading, coaching and developing people

  • Leads change, builds the required culture on site and acts as role model in behaviours and continuously develops his/her own competencies

  • Coaches, mentors and develops the site management team members and builds a team which collectively is capable of and fully involved in achieving the current tasks and targets as well as contributing to improvements

  • Ensures HR processes are followed, job profiles are in place, sets objectives for team members, reviews development and provides clear, open and constructive feedback on Performance combined with the appropriate actions.

  • Strengthens the talent pipeline by developing talent, doing succession planning and Regularly assesses and discusses talent and internal movement.

  • Continuously monitors and evaluates retention risk.

  • Stimulates, manages and follows through on employee engagement and builds on the Workforce to reflect the societies and markets in which we do business

Engaging stakeholders




  • Serves as the primary point of contact for communications outside of the site; being responsible for maintaining good relationships inside AkzoNobel and with all external bodies (unions, media, attorneys, governmental and regulatory officials, community and Business leaders, customers, 3rd party services providers for transport and warehousing, employer association/association of chemical industry).

  • Maintains and oversees relations with external stakeholders to ensure the company values and license to operate are sustained.

  • Works closely with the (s)BU/SMU(‘s) Regional Management Team(s) for which the site produces products to ensure matrix structure operates efficiently.




Experience & Role Requirements

General:




  • Bachelor or Master education

  • Advanced English language skills

Functional competencies:




  • Broad and specialized knowledge in Operations and Supply Chain, and understanding of the various cost drivers within the Supply Chain.

  • Broad and specialized knowledge of Process Safety & Asset Integrity, HSE Critical Leadership, Site Hazards and Risks, Behaviour Based Safety, AN HSE standards (or similar) and policies, Managing Contractors

  • Strong experience in Continuous Improvement such as Lean, Six Sigma or other continuous Improvement methodologies and tools and processes

  • Strong experience in Process Management

  • Experience in Project Management, Integrated Business Planning, Problem Solving
