Job Description

AbbVie’s Precision Medicine organization is committed to advancing drug development and patient care through building a deeper understanding of disease biology and developing tools to optimize clinical decision making and customize treatment for patients. As a scientist, you will be part of a fast paced and multi-disciplinary team responsible for developing and implementing innovative technologies to enable decision making in clinical trials and evaluate disease and drug biology.


AbbVie Oncology is seeking an experienced, highly motivated cell biologist to join the Translational Oncology Precision Medicine team in Waltham, MA. As a scientist, you will be part of a fast paced and multi-disciplinary team responsible for studying pipeline candidates to enable decision making in clinical trials and evaluate disease and drug biology.


The Precision Medicine team uses advanced technologies to understand cell signaling and validate mechanisms of action of different drugs in AbbVie’s innovative pipeline to inform clinical decisions including indications and patient selection and combinations.


Success in this role is defined as demonstrated ability to independently design and execute experiments and generate reliable and reproducible data. The successful candidate will have a background in cancer biology with experience in cell culture and molecular biology.


Responsibilities:


  • Support AbbVie pipeline via experimental efforts aiming at understanding the mechanisms of action, therapeutic-sensitivity/resistance, and combination therapy to inform clinical -strategies such as indication expansion and patient selection.
  • Independently design and perform experiments to appropriately address project goals.
  • Generate reliable and reproducible data in a timely manner. Analyze, organize, and manage data independently. Generate reports and present to the team. 
  • Interpret results and draw conclusions from own experiments.
  • Read relevant literature and adapt scientific efforts to advance research in the area.
  • Independently identify, understand, optimize, and implement new experimental protocols/techniques and act as a resource or mentor for others.
  • Work as part of a multidisciplinary research team in an exciting, fast-paced environment under the mentorship of a supervisor.

Qualifications

Qualifications:


  • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent education with typically 7+ years of experience, or Master’s Degree or equivalent education with typically 5+ years of experience.
  • Broad and versatile technical expertise in cell/molecular biology, and biochemical assays (cell culture techniques, flow cytometry, cytotoxicity assay, IncuCyte live-cell analysis system, biologics internalization assay, ELISA, western blotting, etc).
  • Tissue culture experience, excellent aseptic technique, attention to details, and high organization skills are required.
  • Knowledge and competence in performing in vivo drug efficacy studies, and xenograft development in immunocompromised mouse models is a plus but not required.
  • Demonstrated effective interpersonal and written/verbal communication skills.
  • Competently analyze data and create graphs by using Graphpad Prism and Flowjo or equivalent software.
  • Proven ability to work successfully in a team environment.
  • Demonstrated critical thinking skills as well as excellence and productivity in independent research.
  • Must be proactive and able to work effectively on multiple projects in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
