Position Type Professional Staff Description The Academic and Career Advising Center uses a personalized, holistic approach to assist students in developing the confidence, self-efficacy, and agency to explore, develop, and navigate their educational and career pathways. In partnership with the campus community and external partners, we service as a primary academic and career advising support, resource, and connector, helping students take ownership of their academic, personal and professional development.
Reporting to the Director of Academic and Career Advising, the Assistant Director of Academic Advising is responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operations of academic and pre-professional advising to undergraduate students, advisor training and supervision, strategic planning, and assessment.

Provide professional academic and career advising in multiple settings and formats, including but not limited to meeting with students one-on-one and in group settings. Develop, implement and assess advising processes and procedures within the Academic and Career Advising Center. Coordinate Academic and Career Advisor caseloads on an ongoing basis. Provide onboarding, training and supervision to the Academic and Career Advisors. Utilize a variety of technology to track student progress, maintain advising notes, and coordinate appointment scheduling. Collaborate with the academic departments in the College of Arts and Sciences, the Westbrook College of Health Professions, the College of Business, and the College of Honors on matters relating to curriculum and general academic and advising issues. Understand and be able to explain all undergraduate curricular requirements. Provide appropriate information to students regarding future graduate studies and careers, including academic admissions requirements, field experience, and personal attributes. Disseminate information on UNE policies and procedures as it pertains to degree completion and academic standards. Provide academic and co-curricular information to prospective students. Provide appropriate referrals to academic departments, student support services, and other university resources as necessary to help students achieve their academic, personal, and professional goals. Participate in assigned committee work. Support Director in coordinating ACAC office staffing. Support faculty advisor training utilizing national standards and best practices in the field of academic advising and related technology. Work with the Director to create and implement strategic plans and assessment of progress toward predetermined goals. Support the successful implementation, adoption, and management of university technology platforms. Support Director in leading strategic initiatives, retention efforts, and outreach campaigns. Represent the Academic and Career Advising Center to internal and external constituencies; provide necessary presentations, tabling, student advising at new-student orientation, open house, and recruitment events. Communicate with faculty, academic/program directors, and academic deans regarding the advisement of first and second-year students. Assist with website and social media in collaboration with the Academic and Career Advising and UNE Communications departments. Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications Master’s degree in relevant field required, plus 3+ years of advising and/or higher education experience, or a combination of education and experience from which comparable knowledge and skills are acquired.
Specialized knowledge and skills related to specific areas of responsibility; Excellent planning, administrative and organizational skills; Capacity to work with and understand undergraduate students; Excellent interpersonal, organization, written and oral communication skills; An understanding of and preference for collaborative approaches to problem-solving; Experience with record keeping and generation of assessment reports; Willingness to work both autonomously and collaboratively with team members; Strong technological skills and comfortable work with Microsoft Office, Banner (or similar data system), advising management software, preferred; Previous Supervisory experience preferred; Positive and energetic outlook.
