Job Purpose
- To ensure compliance with all maintenance requirements for the planned/un-planned maintenance activities to be performed in the assigned Hub and Outstations. Also, to ensure the safety, availability, and continued airworthiness, of the fleet and 3rd Party aircrafts (if any) in accordance with business requirements, DAC/DGAC/EASA/IOSA rules and regulations, and as per Airline’s policies, procedures, and approved quality standards
Decision Making Parameters
- Participates in the planning and decision-making process for new initiatives, projects, policies and procedures related to the corresponding functions. Defines the action plans that realize the business strategy for the maintenance operations and performance.
- Empowered to make decisions on all aspects related to maintenance within the framework of responsibilities and boundaries identified with his/ her role and in accordance with standard practices and guidelines set by the company.
- Consults with the Line Manager / Matrix Manager on all non-routine strategic and budget related decisions. All duties shall be performed thru proper channel and in compliance with regulations and adopted policies and procedures.
Key Result Responsibilities
- Manages the maintenance contractual and operational activities, ensuring they are agreed, implemented, and performed as per respective Civil Aviation Authority rules and regulations, and as per Airline’s adopted policies and procedures with focus on safety, efficiency and cost-effectiveness in managing technical requirements and human factors considerations.
- Supports in establishing strategic and budgetary plans for related areas and works with his/her teams to ensure successful delivery of the respective budgets and plans. Assists in managing costs and controlling the budget for maintenance operations and capital expenditure (if any).
- Defines, implements, and communicates the “Maintenance” policies and procedures within the maintenance teams; monitors the overall performance to ensure compliance of teams with Company’s standards as laid down in the Airline’s Operations Manual as well as to regulatory requirements.
- Establishes standardization in processes and procedures through developing and successfully managing a set of platforms to be adopted by the maintenance teams in hub and outstations, carrying out, documenting, and communicating the required assignments to ensure the airworthiness of the fleet.
- Implements the agreed financial control fundamentals in the Maintenance department to ensure adherence with contractual obligations as well as cost-effectively manage the related expenditure, payments and invoices.
- Liaises with relevant stakeholders for assessment of the vendors, service providers, suppliers and AMO through monitoring the respective overall performance and quality of services provided
- Analyzes and evaluates the management reports received from own team to highlight variances and identify gaps in performance; recommends and implements corrective measures and alternative cost-effective solutions as needed.
- Partners with Stakeholders to ensure the adequacy and availability of necessary resources (manpower, facilities, equipment, tools, etc.).
Key Result Responsibilities - Continued
- Partners with Legal, Finance, HR and other cross-functional departments and teams to carry out function-related work ensuring efficiency and timely delivery.
- Leads and reviews the performance of the Maintenance team members in line with business operational needs and agreed targets. Spends time coaching and guiding them on how to comply with rules and regulations and on the formalities and procedures followed in carrying maintenance tasks and operations, identifies opportunities and plans for their development and approves those of their teams.
- Assesses maintenance personnel competency to plan and oversee the execution of needed technical and career development trainings; ensures training plans are approved by respective authorities and follow licensing regulatory requirements.
- Represents the Airline at the respective Civil Aviation Authority on maintenance and aircrafts licensing matters.
- Partners with Manager “Training and Standards” to plan and coordinate the Maintenance Team recurrent training and career development ensuring staff compliance with training and licensing regulatory requirements.
- Partners with Quality Assurance/ Safety/Security Departments to ensure adherence of Maintenance Teams to standards and regulations and ensures timely response to audit findings.

Qualifications (Academic, training, languages)
- Bachelor’s degree in Aircraft Engineering/Aeronautical or equivalent; alternately a diploma in Aircraft Engineering/Maintenance or E&M degree or certificate from a recognized university or engineering college combined with needed experience and exposure.
- Holder/has held an DAC/EASA/ICAO Aircraft Maintenance License.
- Holds/has held the corresponding type-rating maintenance license, additional aircraft types is an advantage.
- Professional membership of associations related to the Aviation/Airlines industry would be an advantage.
- Project Management certificate or alternately the proven corresponding working experience is a must
- Cost Control, Compliance, Budgeting and Quality Assurance certificates and trainings are an added value and some may be treated as conditional for this role.
- Capable of using technology systems & tools; proficient in Microsoft Office
- Fluent in English and French Languages.
- Valid Driver's license and/or ability to obtain Airport Driving Perm
Work Experience
- 15 years’ experience in the Aviation industry, 10 years of which in Aircrafts maintenance supervisory or management in a similar capacity, with 5 years at least leading/co-leading the Maintenance Department.
- Has direct working experience with Civil Aviation Authorities, preferably DGAC; familiar with all rules and regulations of EASA pertaining to the Engineering Maintenance, policies, procedures, manuals and licensing.
- Experienced in leading and developing a team of Engineering professionals (Engineers and Technicians) in a frequently changing environment with heavy work-load schedules.
- A very good knowledge and exposure on airline and Flight Operations, SGHA contracting formalities and standard regulations; good understanding of Flight crew thought process.
- Has very good knowledge and working exposure to Commercial/Quality Assurance/Safety/Internal & External Audit functional operations and practices related to and affecting maintenance.
- Experienced in designing, implementing, and monitoring the team’s performance against maintenance policies, procedures and operating manuals as per business needs and in line with adopted regulations and approved quality standards.
- Has worked on initiating contracts and service level agreements of extreme technical nature.
- Demonstrates exceptional work habits; high accuracy and attention to both results and details.
- Ability to produce, interpret, assimilate data and express ideas and concepts clearly.
- Proven skills in analyzing data, identifying pitfalls and recommending cost-effective solutions.
