Job Description
Immunology discovery research at the AbbVie Cambridge Research Center, MA is seeking a highly motivated molecular & cellular biologist with strong expertise on cell and protein engineering to join the Exploratory biologics team, working collaboratively with different functional groups cross AbbVie to advance AbbVie immunology pipeline. This position requires leading science discovery, implementing new ideas, supervise discovery team to explore novel biology and technology to treat autoimmune disease.
Key responsibilities include:
- Effectively function as a principal investigator, generating original technical ideas and research strategies to develop novel biologics with high therapeutic potential, new functionalities, and drug development attributes.
- Design and develop tool reagents including but not limited to peptides, fusion protein, antibody, bi-/multi-specific biologics, etc., engineered cell lines, and in-vitro binding and functional assays to enable in-vitro and in-vivo early target validation,
- Demonstrate creative 'out of the box' thinking to solve difficult problems and champion novel molecular modality to enable drug “undruggable” targets.
- Lead novel target validation, build data package to propose therapeutic molecular format, and drive project transition to fulfil immunology pipeline.
- Primary author of publications, presentations, regulatory documents and/or primary inventor of patents.
- Work collaboratively in AbbVie’s matrix environment and support novel target identification and validation for immunology.
Qualifications
- PhD in Immunology, Molecular Biology, or other biological sciences with typically 4+ years post-doctoral experience; or MS or equivalent with typically 10+ years of experience; or BS or equivalent with typically 12+ years of experience
- Have a strong understanding of protein engineering and extensive experience in molecular biology techniques.
- Extensive cell biology experience, proficiency in working with human primary cells and immortalized cell lines.
- Experience with intrabodies, nanoparticles, virus like particles, gene therapies, and cell modification technologies are preferred.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and work collaboratively in a cross-functional environment.
