ABOUT THE ROLE:
The Customs Declarant ensures the accurate, timely, and compliant processing of import and export customs declarations. The role requires strong technical knowledge of customs regulations, excellent analytical skills, and the ability to supervise a customs support team.
The ideal candidate has3 to 5 years of experiencein customs declaration, combined with formal education inTransport & Logisticsand a certifiedCustoms Declarant diploma.
YOUR TASKS:
Customs Déclaration & Compliance
- Prepare, verify, and submit accurate import/export declarations in full compliance with customs regulations, internal policies, and international standards.
- Conduct thorough checks on HS classification, valuation, duties, taxes, preferential origin, and special customs procedures.
- Review supporting documentation (invoices, packing lists, certificates) with a high level of precision.
- Ensure compliance with legal requirements and adherence to internal quality standards.
Advanced Operational Tasks
- Analyze complex declaration cases and provide expert-level solutions to ensure regulatory compliance.
- Coordinate with trade compliance teams to update procedures according to new regulations.
- Support audits, internal controls, and compliance assessments related to customs processes.
Customer Service & Stakeholder Communication
- Provide clear and timely communication to customers regarding shipment status and customs procedures.
- Serve as a point of contact for customs officials during inspections, document validation, or clearance issues.
- Maintain a professional, courteous, and solution-driven communication style with all stakeholders.
Team Leadership Responsibilities – Customs Support Team
- Supervise the customs support/declaration back line team to ensure timely and accurate processing of shipment documentation.
- Allocate daily tasks, manage workload distribution, and coordinate shift schedules to meet operational peaks.
- Train, coach, and mentor team members to enhance accuracy, compliance, and performance.
- Monitor team KPIs (accuracy, clearance time, data quality, productivity) and implement improvement plans when needed.
- Conduct periodic audits of team files, declarations, and documentation to ensure strict adherence to customs rules and internal procedures.
- Promote a collaborative, proactive, and compliance-driven team culture.

Undertake any other related tasks or responsibilities as reasonably directed or required.
Actively identify opportunities to improve customs clearance processes, systems, and overall service efficiency. Recommend practical solutions to streamline procedures, reduce delays, and enhance the customer experience.
Demonstrate awareness of individual and departmental performance targets (KPIs) and consistently work towards achieving and exceeding these objectives.
Contribute ideas and feedback to support continuous improvement initiatives within the customs team and the wider organization.
Ensure that all work aligns with company standards for quality, compliance, and operational excellence.
Customs Clearance Management
Ensure that entries are cleared in accordance with Customs compliance agreements
Prioritise the clearance flow in order to achieve fastest transit time possible
YOUR PROFILE:
Education
- Licence en Transport et Logistique (or equivalent degree).
- Customs Declarant Certificate – required.
Essential
- 3 to 5 years of professional experiencein customs declaration, import/export operations, freight forwarding, or logistics.
- Demonstrated experiencesupervising or coordinating a customs support teamor a back-office customs function.
- Strong oral and written communication skills inFrench and English.
- Proven accuracy and attention to detail in customs data entry and document control.
- Solid understanding of: HS classification and tariff determination, Valuation principles, Special and economic customs procedures, Duty and tax calculations
- Experience using customs declaration software such asBADRandPORTNET.
- Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to interact professionally with customers and customs authorities.
- Demonstrated success working under strict deadlines in a fast-paced operational environment.
- Familiarity withinternational trade documentation, including Incoterms and certificates of origin.
- Proven ability to meet and exceed operational KPIs (accuracy, clearance times, data quality).
- Good computer literacy with comfort using standard office tools and customs
