Role Purpose
To provide learners with an engaging and rewarding English language learning experience, ensuring high-quality teaching and effective learning outcomes. The role also supports the wider objectives of the British Council, including its mission to promote cultural relations and mutual understanding.
Main Accountabilities:
Teaching
Plan, prepare, and deliver high-quality English language lessons that meet the needs of diverse learner groups, ensuring alignment with British Council Global Teaching Standards. Monitor learner progress, provide constructive feedback, and actively promote learner autonomy. Engage in ongoing professional development and performance management to maintain excellence in teaching and uphold best practices in English Language Teaching (ELT).
Teaching Centre Activities & Customer Engagement
Contribute to the development and improvement of courses, materials, and services by participating in staff meetings and collaborative initiatives. Support marketing and promotional activities, deliver outstanding customer service, and complete teaching-related administrative tasks to required standards. Maintain positive relationships with students and colleagues, promoting the British Council’s cultural relations mission and creating opportunities for intercultural engagement.
Compliance & Inclusion
Ensure full compliance with safeguarding, data protection, health and safety, and equality, diversity, and inclusion (EDI) policies. Incorporate EDI principles into lesson planning and classroom delivery, while upholding British Council values and behaviours in all interactions.
Qualifications & experience:
Essentials:
- English at C1 level (minimum) is required.
- Undergraduate degree
- Cambridge CELTA or Trinity cert TESOL (global minimum standard)
- 2 Years of experience post CELTA or Trinity cert Tesol
- Experience in teaching relevant age groups
- Primary aged 6 to 10 (400+ hours)
- Lower Secondary aged 11 to 14 (800+ hours)
- Upper Secondary aged 15 to 17 (400+ hours)
- University/Vocational students aged 18 to 25 (400+hours)
- Adults General English 18+ (800+ hours)
Desirables:
- Recognised diploma in EFL i.e. DELTA or Trinity Diploma
- Experience in teaching relevant age groups
- Early Years aged 2 to 5 (400+hours)
