Job Description

The Genetic Medicine and External Partnerships (GMEP) Group is seeking a highly motivated and experienced Scientist to join our AAV Technologies team and work collaboratively with our therapeutic area teams (Eye Care, Immunology, Oncology, Neuroscience, Virology) to advance AbbVie’s rAAV pipeline. The successful candidate will have experience in purification of multiple AAV serotypes generated by the triple transfection method for pre-clinical testing in animal models of disease. The candidate will work in a fast-paced environment to investigate, develop, and optimize methods and technologies through hands-on laboratory work and literature review.


Key Responsibilities Include:


  • Immuno Affinity Purification of rAAV serotypes from mammalian cells
  • Empty/Full Capsid Separation via ion exchange chromatography and ultracentrifugation
  • Develop and optimize production of high concentration and high quality AAV preps.
  • Read and apply relevant scientific literature to resolve key project challenges.
  • Effectively organize and communicate research progress either through oral presentations or written documentation.
  • Work efficiently, collaboratively, and across functions to meet timelines and goals.
  • Introduce and lead innovative science enabling publication and external presentations.
  • Maintain a high level of productivity in the lab with clear daily, detailed, and accurate documentation of experiments.
  • Demonstrate scientific initiative and creative thinking in achieving project goals and implementing technology innovations. Seek new information and opportunities to advance our technologies.
  • Understand and enforce company culture, teamwork, safety, appropriate handling of materials in a BSL2 environment.

Qualifications

Qualifications:


  • BS or MS with 3-5+ years (BS), or 0-2+ years (MS) of industry or academic experience.
  • Experience with AKTA FPLC systems to purify AAV serotypes and proteins from various expression systems.

Preferred Qualifications:


  • Experience with standard protein analysis i.e., ELISA, SDS-PAGE, western blot, CE-SDS (WES/JES), silver staining, and endotoxin testing.
  • Background in analytics is a plus but not required.
