The Africa Center of Manufacturing Excellence (ACME) is a leading advanced manufacturing hub specializing in Advanced Manufacturing, Industry 4.0, automation, and tooling. It operates as a center of excellence at Mohammed VI Polytechnic University (UM6P) and is structured as a consortium that brings together leading industrial companies.



Mission:




The Robotics & Mechatronics Research Scientist will lead the development of next-generation robotic systems for Non-Destructive Testing (NDT), industrial inspection, and advanced manufacturing. The successful candidate will design intelligent robotic platforms capable of inspecting critical industrial assets in aerospace, energy, mining, rail, and manufacturing environments.



The position combines scientific excellence with industrial impact by developing autonomous and semi-autonomous robotic inspection solutions integrating robotics, mechatronics, artificial intelligence, machine vision, sensor fusion, and advanced NDT technologies. The Research Scientist will work closely with industrial partners to accelerate technology transfer from laboratory research to real-world industrial deployment.



Key Responsibilities:




• Design and develop innovative robotic and mechatronic systems for industrial manufacturing applications.
• Develop advanced automation solutions integrating robotics, sensors, machine vision and intelligent control.
• Design, implement and validate robotic workcells for manufacturing, inspection and assembly.
• Develop control algorithms for robotic systems, motion control and autonomous operations.
• Develop embedded software and real-time control systems for robotics applications.
• Design and integrate sensors, actuators and electronic systems into mechatronic platforms.
• Conduct simulation, modelling and digital twin development for robotic systems.
• Perform testing, validation and performance optimization of robotic solutions.
• Collaborate with additive manufacturing, inspection and digital manufacturing teams on multidisciplinary projects.
• Prepare technical documentation, research reports and scientific publications.
• Participate in proposal writing and the development of funded R&D projects.
• Supervise graduate students, interns and junior engineers.
• Collaborate with industrial partners to transfer research into commercial and industrial applications.
• Contribute to the development of ACME's robotics laboratory and strategic research roadmap.
• Ensure compliance with laboratory safety procedures and international industrial standards.
