About ASARI (Hiring Entity)

The African Sustainable Agriculture Research Institute (ASARI) is a component of the Mohammed VI Polytechnic University (UM6P) in Laayoune City, south of Morocco. It constitutes a structure of applied research with a vision of solving real Local, Regional, and African agriculture challenges leveraging up-to-date science and technology. To implement its vision, ASARI puts a lot of emphasis on interdisciplinary research in sectors of strategic interest for the southern regions of Morocco and for the African continent such as:

  • Plant & animal biotechnology (biosaline agriculture, animal production & nutrition, valorization of native aromatic & medicinal plants and algae, etc.)
  • Sustainable technologies in water, environment, and energy sectors

Description Of The Position

The African Sustainable Agriculture Research Institute (ASARI) at the satellite of the Mohammed VI Polytechnic University (UM6P) in Laayoune is seeking applications for a full-time Postdoctoral Fellow in the field of chemistry or chemical engineering for one year/Renewable every year.

The appointed candidate is expected to engage in ongoing research and publication activities at ASARI/UM6P, mentor and guide graduate students, deliver the deliverables set on the project, teach and serve on various academic committees.

Successful Candidate Is Expected To

  • Have a strong experience in chemistry and/or chemical engineering.
  • Have expertise in the valorization of organic and inorganic wastes/residues.
  • Recover valuable components, metals, and/or materials from industrial and mining wastes/residues
  • Collect samples, propose new ideas and develop innovative processes in the field of waste/residue treatment and valorization.
  • Initiate and develop joint research projects and programs on the valorization of wastes/residues from mining and industrial sites.
  • Conduct analytical measurements, collect research data and data interpretation.
  • Write scientific articles and reports and assisting in the preparation of research proposals and protocols
  • Assist in supervising and training students through different laboratory related activities and develop teaching materials.

Education

  • A Ph.D. in Chemistry, chemical engineering, or related field.

Requirement

  • PhD in chemistry, chemical engineering, or related field from a recognized University.
  • Strong experience in research in the field of organic and inorganic waste/residue management and valorization. This includes the conversion of mining and industrial wastes/residues into high value-added products.
  • High publication and research record in leading international and well-ranked journals (at least 4 publications in the last 3 years) the valorization of organic and inorganic wastes and/or residues.
  • Strong experience in teaching and supervising students.
  • Strong English and French communication skills, both verbal and written, are required.
  • Ability to interact and communicate with industrial players in the field is highly required
