Position Overview:




The Business Intelligence Specialist currently serves under the direction of a Business Intelligence Lead. They are the data specialists who contribute to organizational improvement by gathering and analyzing data, preparing reports, and introducing process improvements throughout the reporting process. They have excellent analytical and technical skills, in addition to a keen ability to determine specifications and standards for business reporting and maintaining data integrity.




The Business Intelligence Specialist’s key responsibilities involve data extraction & maintenance, data modeling and transformation and data statistics/insights. Given that they receive various requests from Operations and Account Support Functions (WFM, CE, Coaching), it is a must to have strong task prioritization skills in addition to good statistical and critical thinking skills.




The Business Intelligence Specialist must be a compelling Data Storyteller. Data storytelling is a structured approach for communicating data insights, and it involves a combination of three key elements: data, visuals, and narrative. Weekly Reports must contain Prescriptive Actions that the Operation Team can implement to help drive improvement in operational performance.




A strong proficiency with computer application components such as Microsoft Office (Excel, PowerPoint) and G Suite is a must. Possess the ability to learn and navigate tools and dashboards. Must demonstrate professionalism at all times and utilize excellent written and oral communication skills. The successful candidate will have a passion for ensuring data quality, analyzing data and identifying patterns and trends as well as building engaging visualizations that simplify complex stories.





Business Intelligence Specialist Duties and Responsibilities:





Input and Data Gathering
Business Intelligence Specialists gather and maintain a wide array of data-related business processes and reporting. This involves both entering information into existing databases and creating new processes and programs to accurately input and store critical data. They also work with data structures and metadata to ensure consistency, security, and accessibility.





Analyze Information
Reporting Analysts take an active role in data analysis and interpretation. They assemble, analyze and evaluate internal operational data, demonstrating ability to determine trends. Includes the comparison of data across different sources and definitions.They frequently need to exercise sound judgment while analyzing and interpreting data to ensure a high level of accuracy, timeliness, and usefulness for business leaders.





Prepare Reports
Business Intelligence Specialists prepare necessary data, documents and reports needed for upper management and executives, on a weekly, monthly, quarterly or yearly basis. Reports can be created in any TELUS allowed tools like Google Suite, Excel, Looker Studio or Look ML, Google Cloud Platform and BigQuery.





Collaboration with Stakeholders
Business Intelligence Specialists frequently work across business lines, conferring with managers and executives to gather requirements and specifications while developing enhanced data and reporting tools. They work directly with team leaders to gain a better sense of the current shortcomings in reporting technology and devise solutions to enhance reporting and data management.





Conduct System and Database Audits
To ensure data accuracy and efficiency, Business Intelligence Specialists conduct routine audits of data sources or storage, conducting many tests and analyzing the results before devising new solutions or finding ways to enhance data management solutions.

Required profile :


Required Experience, Skills & Competencies:





  • Minimum 2 - 3 years’ experience in Business Intelligence or a BPO operations environment in an analytically driven role.

  • Strong knowledge of relational databases (Google Cloud Platform and BigQuery), database structures and design, systems design, and data management; able to write, execute, and interpret queries

  • Proficient in writing complex SQL Queries, Stored Procedures, Views, Joins to implement business logic

  • Experience with Data Visualization / Dashboard tools

  • Intellectually Curious – fast and self-driven learner in areas including new business models, analytical techniques, technical skills etc.

  • Experience with Agile Project Management Methodologies (SCRUM, Kanban etc.)

  • Expert knowledge of Google Sheets with ability to create charts, graphs, pivot tables, and complex formulas

  • Proficiency with Google Docs applications and the ability to learn to navigate new tools and dashboards

  • Excellent Verbal, Written and Presentation Communication Skills

  • Demonstrated analytical and problem solving experience

  • Demonstrated strong organizational, time management, prioritization and coordination skills

  • Ability to self-initiate follow up, work independently and adhere to deadlines

  • Ability to build strong stakeholder relationships and foster ownership, innovation and collaboration within a team



Preferred Experience, Skills & Competencies:





  • High Level of Proficiency in Front end BI Tools (Sisense/Looker Data Studio/ Look ML/ Tableau/ Power BI etc.) would be a distinct advantage

  • Advanced knowledge of MS Office applications and Google Sheets

  • Practical Knowledge of relational databases, database structures and design, systems design, and data management; able to write, execute, and interpret queries

  • Associate Degree or some college in a relevant field ( Data Science, Data Analytics, Statistics, Computer Science, Information Systems)
