The role partners with business leaders in an assigned function to develop and implement people strategies and tactics that support the business plans and the achievement of both short-term and long-term strategic objectives.</p><br><p><strong>Responsibilities</strong></p><br><ul><li>Serve as the primary strategic partner to the business. Assist or lead the creation and implementation of HR Strategies to meet organizational and business needs.</li><li>Coach, consult, and influence the business leaders, including senior leadership, regarding leadership development, succession planning, and talent management. Engage and Influence business leaders though strong relationship-building skills and strategic insights.</li><li>Develop and implement strategies to attract, develop and retain talent that meets current and future business needs. This includes identifying and cultivating new capabilities required for future success. Lead talent development and succession planning efforts.</li><li>Ensure the effective delivery of all HR programs and service, and be responsible for HR results in the business, including client satisfaction, HR effectiveness, and associated financial results.</li><li>Establish, build, and maintain strong relationships with key HR partners from all Centers of Excellence and Service Centers to ensure HR elements are successfully coordinated to meet business needs; include relationship management, leadership, HR roles & responsibilities, and service delivery commitments.</li><li>Provides consultation on and leads organization design and effectiveness / structure issues to ensure optimal performance.</li><li>Drive people manager development to create clarity and consistency of expectations, accountability, and enriched manager/employee experiences. Partner with people leaders to shape a culture of high employee engagement, high performance, diversity and inclusion.</li><li>Facilitate, implement, and model change. Develop and deliver effective communication strategies that align with organizational priorities and support business objectives.</li><li>Champion AbbVie Ways We Work with Business by modeling, educating, and coaching on these behaviors.</li><li>Prioritize critical projects based on business needs and available resources.</li><li>Identify trends and new approaches to business processes that should be both incremental and ahead of the curve.</li><li>Develop proposals and recommendations to resolve strategically important issues with strategic approach to problem-solving on HR issues (enterprise mindset, connecting the dots, thinking ahead).</li><li>Leads large scale, strategic projects and initiative with multi-year impact, capable of creating transformation</li></ul><br>Qualifications<br><br><p><strong>Education and Experience</strong></p><br><ul><li>Bachelor's degree</li><li>8+ years of relevant HR experience</li><li>Knowledge of regulations and standards affecting the business; strong business acumen</li><li>Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills in a complex and demanding environment</li><li>Project management or business experience</li><li>Experience in organizational development, design, and effectiveness</li><li>Experience supporting a global business and partnering with internationally-based business leaders and HR colleagues</li><li>Strategic thinking with proven experience in leading multiple programs and initiatives, with the ability to prioritize</li><li>Significant breadth of understanding of functional/ CoE HR roles and responsibilities and their impact on the business</li><li>Experience interacting with and presenting to senior management. The role partners across functions to support prioritization, governance, and continuous improvement through strong analysis, communication, and executive-level presentation skills.</p><br><p><strong>Responsibilities:</strong></p><br><ul><li>Develop data-driven insights and recommendations to support Discovery Research operations and leadership decision-making, including portfolio prioritization, governance, and operational decision-making.</li><li>Serve as a strong communicator and writer, developing clear summaries, leadership updates, and executive-level slides and presentations.</li><li>Synthesize complex scientific, technical, analytical, and business issues into concise, actionable insights.</li><li>Anticipate challenges and recommend proactive strategies to address portfolio, operational, and business needs.</li><li>Balance quality, timing, budget, and strategic considerations to support high-impact decisions across the portfolio.</li><li>Analyze portfolio composition and performance to identify trends, gaps, risks, bottlenecks, and opportunities for improvement.</li><li>Track, interpret, and report key KPIs, including cycle time, success rates, throughput, budget performance, and other relevant portfolio metrics.</li><li>Investigate functional pain points and propose practical solutions, supporting or leading implementation efforts as needed.</li><li>Partner effectively across functions and with indirect authority to align stakeholders and drive execution.</li><li>Leverage external intelligence related to technologies, tools, and competitors to inform portfolio strategy and identify opportunities for innovation.</li></ul><p>In addition to Cambridge, MA, this opportunity may also be based out of Lake County, IL or Worcester, MA. </p><br><br>Qualifications<br><br><ul><li>BS & 10+ years, MS & 7+ years, PHD & 5+ years <em>industry</em> experience in Drug Discovery, ideally within a biotech or pharmaceutical company.</li><li>Strong background in portfolio analysis, project management, operations, or related scientific/business discipline.</li><li>Understanding of operational strategies for early-stage drug discovery programs’ evolution through the drug development lifecycle.</li><li>Demonstrated ability to analyze data, identify trends, and translate findings into actionable recommendations.</li><li>Experience measuring and reporting KPIs, with exposure to cycle time, success rate, and portfolio performance metrics preferred.</li><li>Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to create executive-level presentations and slides.</li><li>Ability to work effectively across functions and influence stakeholders without direct authority.</li><li>Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and complex initiatives.</li><li>Demonstrated ability to resolve complex scientific, technical, analytical, and business issues.</li></ul><br>Additional Information<br><br><p>Applicable only to applicants applying to a position in any location with pay disclosure requirements under state or local law: </p><br><ul><li>The compensation range described below is the range of possible base pay compensation that the Company believes in good faith it will pay for this role at the time of this posting based on the job grade for this position.
