This position will have a significant impact by managing a group of scientists focused on design, production, and characterization of multispecific biopharmaceutical products. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience with biologics and multispecific production platforms, analytical characterization, and a proven track record of implementing multispecific engineering and production strategies to advance early- and late-stage discovery programs in ADCs and immuno-oncology. The ideal candidate should also have experience managing a small multispecific engineering team in a discovery setting. The successful applicant will be an enthusiastic, creative scientist who makes tangible contributions to continuous improvement and innovation within the organization.</p><br><p><strong>Key responsibilities:</strong></p><br><ul><li>Design, engineering, and production of multispecific biologics to support AbbVie’s Oncology therapeutic area; apply design and engineering experience with multispecific biologics for ADC and immuno-oncology applications.</li><li>Manage a group of scientists within the multispecific team, focusing on the design, production, characterization of multispecific biologics, and management of multispecific inventory.</li><li>Serve as the biologics lead on multispecific biologics projects, coordinating activities and transitions from hit generation through candidate nomination.</li><li>Serve as a multispecific engineering representative on cross-functional teams; recognized as an expert in multispecific design and production.</li><li>Identify and solve technical problems independently, conceive, and implement innovative processes in research ideas.</li><li>Present original work internally across departments and at internal and external scientific conferences; may author or co-author peer-reviewed scientific papers or patents.</li></ul><br>Qualifications<br><br><ul><li>PhD or MS degree in Biochemistry, Biochemical engineering or related disciplines<ul><li>+ (PhD) or 12+ (MS) years of experience in multispecific engineering or antibody engineering</li></ul></li><li>Experience with protein, biologics, fragments, or multispecifics (e.g. bispecifics, trispecifics, bispecific protein fusions) design, expression and purification</li><li>In-depth knowledge of the multispecific landscape, trends in design, and application across therapeutic areas including immunology, oncology, and neuroscience</li><li>Ability to recognize emerging areas of interest in multispecific engineering, antibody engineering, and related fields, and make connections between research ideas to advance platforms and programs</li><li>Excellent organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously</li><li>Team player with the ability to operate in a fast-paced multi-disciplinary environment</li><li>Candidate must be a goal-oriented team player with excellent verbal and written communication skills and strong can-do attitude</li><li><p><strong>Preferred qualifications:</strong></p><br></li><li>Experience with sequence analysis tools (Vector NTI, Geneious, Genedata)</li><li>Experience with mass spectrometry analysis and software (Protein Metrics)</li><li>Experience with CRO coordination for production</li><li>Expert understanding of current state of protein expression/separation/analytical technologies</li><li>Extensive knowledge of biologic pipeline progression from exploratory through candidate nomination with program management experience preferred</li><li>Experience managing direct reports and providing performance evaluations and development opportunities</li><li>Recognized in the scientific community through a sustained record of peer-reviewed publications and patents preferred</li></ul><br>Additional Information<br><br><p>Applicable only to applicants applying to a position in any location with pay disclosure requirements under state or local law: </p><br><ul><li><p>The compensation range described below is the range of possible base pay compensation that the Company believes in good faith it will pay for this role at the time of thisposting based on the job grade for this position.
