These dynamics interact with multiple forms of human mobility. Mobility may result from climate impacts through migration, displacement or planned relocation; it may also contribute to adaptation through labour mobility, internal migration, pastoralism and transhumance, remittances, diaspora engagement and livelihood diversification. Voluntary and involuntary immobility must also be considered. IOM Morocco's 2025 study on migration, environment and climate change in the Tangier-Tetouan-Al Hoceima and Souss-Massa regions underscores the relevance of these links. Eighty-five per cent of respondents in Tangier-Tetouan-Al Hoceima and 75 per cent in Souss-Massa reported that environmental and climatic changes had affected their living conditions; 46 per cent and 53 per cent, respectively, indicated that they were considering migration. The study also highlights the potential contribution of migration, remittances and diaspora engagement to adaptation and resilient livelihoods.
